Singer Studios is a mixed-use, creative low-carbon neighbourhood
that includes 232 long-stay aparthotel studios, 6,500m2 of office space, 12 new
residential apartments, and 565m2 of retail and food outlets.
We designed a new courtyard at the heart of the development
that is inspired by the concept of Rus in Urbe - the illusion of the
countryside running through the city. This idea is one of the most pervasive
characteristics of English urbanism. We aim to create a lush, quiet oasis in
contrast to the hustle and bustle of Old Street and Shoreditch. As an ode to
the English countryside, the new enclosed garden will feature native species
and local materials and provide a sister public space to Tabernacle Square.
